2221 Negro Infantry Volunteers of WWII
Veterans Day Celebration and Reunion
Speakers: Dr. Melvin N. Johnson, President
Tennessee State University.
Mr. Ron Armstead, Executive Director,
Congressional Black Caucus Veterans Braintrust.
Washington, DC
The Association of the 2221 Negro Infantry Volunteers is pleased to announce
the Association will hold its annual reunion in Nashville, Tennessee, November
11 through 13, 2005. The members of the Association have the distinction of
being the first men to fight shoulder to shoulder with white infantry soldiers
in 1944 in the European theater of WW II. Their heroic exploits helped the
allied forces to secure victory during the Battle of The Bulge and other
military engagements during WW II. The actions of the Associations' members
later caused then President Harry S. Truman to call for full integration of
all the Armed forces of the United States.
Dr. Melvin N. Johnson, President of Tennessee State University and a
retired Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Air force will be the
featured speaker on Friday, November 11, 2005, at 6:00 p.m. This reception
will be held at the National Guard Armory, Sidco Drive, Nashville, Tennessee.
Mr. Ron Armstead, Executive Director of the Congressional Black Caucus
Veterans Braintrust and a consultant to former Secretary Jesse Brown's
Advisory Committee on Minority Veterans will speak at a black tie banquet on
Saturday, November 12, 2005 at 6:00 p.m. This affair will also be held at
the National Guard Armory, Sidco Drive, Nashville, Tennessee.
