The United states of America was born of the Revolutionary War, when the colonies fought to gain freedom from Britain. The Revolution lasted from 1775 to 1783. Four years later, the Constitutional Convention was held. What follows is a look at the original 13 states, their order of entry into the Union upon ratification of the Constitution,  along with the date of ratification and population at that time:
