Wereth, Belgium Memorial and Ceremony

Photos and captions submitted by

Fred Hinson

Belgium World War II veterans (with flags) from the area, a couple of local officials, and our little party. (I am far right)

Reception in Wereth after the ceremony where vets exchanged stories in French, German and English. Left to right in foreground: Official from a business in Berlin - translated German; my brother-in-law; me; my father - Fred, Sr.; my sister (the diplomat) translated French; and the Burgemeister of Wereth (Mayor) spoke German.

The memorial to the 11 Black GIs. To the people who experienced the war, these memorials are very emotional. They take these observances more seriously than we tend to do here.
